Portland Fruit Tree Project

Project Overview

The Portland Fruit Tree Project website redesign was developed as part of a client-based design project in collaboration with a local nonprofit organization. The goal was to improve the user experience, modernize the website structure, and make information easier to access for volunteers, donors, and community members.

Working directly with the client allowed our team to balance organizational goals with user needs while delivering a functional website solution.

The Challenge

The organization needed a website that better supported its growing programs, volunteer opportunities, educational resources, and community outreach efforts. Information was spread across multiple pages, making navigation difficult for users trying to find important content quickly.

The challenge was to reorganize content, simplify navigation, and create a more user-friendly experience while maintaining the organization’s mission and identity.

My Role

Project Manager

As Project Manager, I served as the primary point of communication between the client and the project team.

My responsibilities included:

  • Leading client meetings
  • Managing project timelines
  • Coordinating team communication
  • Organizing deliverables
  • Tracking project progress
  • Facilitating collaboration between design, content, and development team members
  • Supporting final presentation and project delivery

Design Process

Discovery & Client Research

The project began with client interviews and stakeholder meetings to better understand organizational goals, user needs, and existing website challenges.

Through these conversations, we identified opportunities to improve navigation, content structure, and access to key resources.

Information Architecture

One of the primary goals was improving content organization.

The team evaluated existing pages and reorganized content into a clearer structure to help users find:

  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Donation information
  • Educational resources
  • Community programs
  • Event information

more efficiently.

UX & Website Design

The redesigned experience focused on:

  • Improved navigation
  • Clear call-to-action placement
  • Mobile-friendly layouts
  • Better content hierarchy
  • Simplified user journeys

Special attention was given to making important actions such as volunteering, donating, and learning about programs easier to access.

Collaboration & Iteration

Throughout the project, our team worked closely with the client through multiple review sessions and feedback cycles.

Design decisions were refined based on client input, user experience considerations, and project goals.

Outcome

The final website provided a more organized and accessible experience for visitors while supporting the nonprofit’s mission and community engagement efforts.

The project strengthened my skills in project management, client communication, team leadership, and web design collaboration while working within a real-world design environment.
