Life After Ike — Documentary Teaser Trailer

Overview

Life After Ike is a documentary teaser project focused on transforming a longer documentary into a concise and engaging one-minute trailer. The objective was to capture the emotional core of the story while encouraging viewers to learn more without revealing the entire narrative.

The project required careful editing decisions, strong pacing, and strategic use of interviews, visuals, and audio to create a compelling viewing experience.

Design Process

Content Review

The project began by reviewing raw documentary footage, including interviews, environmental footage, and supporting visuals. I analyzed the available material to identify key moments that could communicate the story effectively within a much shorter format.

Story Development

Rather than summarizing the entire documentary, I focused on building curiosity and emotional connection. Interview excerpts were selected based on their ability to create intrigue, establish tone, and encourage viewers to continue watching.

Editing & Pacing

A major focus of the project was pacing. I carefully structured the sequence to balance information and emotion while maintaining viewer attention throughout the trailer. The timing of interview clips, visual transitions, and scene changes was adjusted repeatedly to strengthen the narrative flow.

Audio & Emotional Impact

Music and spoken dialogue were used strategically to support the emotional tone of the trailer. Particular attention was given to how interview excerpts interacted with audio cues to create anticipation and strengthen audience engagement.

Post-Production

The project was edited entirely in Adobe Premiere Pro. Fade transitions, timing adjustments, audio balancing, and sequence refinement were used to create a polished final trailer that felt cohesive and cinematic.

Outcome

The final teaser successfully condensed a longer documentary into a focused one-minute experience while preserving emotional impact and narrative interest. The project demonstrates storytelling through editing, audience engagement, pacing, and trailer construction.
